IRT Colors for Security Printing
Anti-counterfeiting protection for sensitive documents
This family of products was specifically developed to produce deep dark shades that are transparent to infrared radiation. Infrared waves readily pass through the dense layer of IRT Black coating where they are reflected away by the substrate underneath.
Security Printing Applications
- Documents printed with IRT Blacks are invisible to an infrared camera/reader to safeguard intellectual property.
- Unlike carbon blacks which absorb all wavelengths, sensitive information printed with IRT Blacks are transparent at certain wavelengths and may be rendered invisible.
There's an expanding range of applications for security printing and anti-counterfeiting including:

Carbon Black vs IRT Black
Traditional carbon blacks will absorb nearly all forms of radiation – including infrared.
Reflective iron chrome blacks are tinctorially weak and can't produce the deep dark shades required – and they may contain dangerous chrome.
Printing with IRT and Carbon Black Inks
Printing your logo or bar code with a combination of IRT Black and Carbon Black can protect your branded products from counterfeiting.
When the composite logo is scanned with an infrared reader, only the areas printed with Carbon Black can be seen while the areas printed with IRT Black will remain invisible.
